Lanterns of Learning – Cauverian Science Talks: 01
Date: 13th March 2026
The Science Association and Nature Club, under the guidance of the IQAC, organized the first session of the special lecture series Lanterns of Learning – Cauverian Science Talks on 13th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall of Cauvery College, Gonikoppal.
The program was presided over by Dr. M. B. Kaveriappa, Principal of Cauvery College, Gonikoppal. The distinguished speaker was Dr. Girish Chandran, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Biochemistry, Mahajana Post Graduate Center, Mysuru, who delivered a lecture on “Sanjeevini – Rediscovery of the Mythical Plant.” The session was hosted by Mrs. Shashikala B.S., Head of the Department of Botany, and organized by Dr. Abishek N. S., Convenor of the Science Association.
The inaugural ceremony featured invocation, welcome address, introduction of the speaker, the special lecture, interactive discussion, presentation of mementos, presidential remarks, and vote of thanks.
The lecture by Dr. Girish Chandran captivated the audience by blending mythology with modern scientific inquiry, focusing on the rediscovery and relevance of Sanjeevini, a plant of legendary significance. The talk emphasized the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with contemporary research, inspiring students to explore science beyond textbooks. The interactive session encouraged questions and reflections, making the event both informative and thought-provoking.
Faculty members, Heads of Departments, students, and the management graced the occasion with their presence. The event marked the beginning of the Lanterns of Learning series, dedicated to “Illuminating Ideas, Shaping Future Generation,” and inspired participants to integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific inquiry.
National Science Day Celebration – 2026
Date: 28th February 2026
The Science Association, Nature Club, and IQAC jointly organized the National Science Day Celebration on 28th February 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall of Cauvery College, Gonikoppal.
The program was presided over by Mrs. M. S. Bharathy, Vice Principal, in the absence of Principal Dr. M. B. Kaveriappa. The Chief Guest was Dr. Bhavani K. M., Retired Principal, Ponnampet.
The celebration featured invocation and prayer song, welcome address, and the Chief Guest’s address by Dr. Bhavani K. M. on the theme “Women in Science: Catalyzing Viksith Bharath.” The program also included prize distribution for competitions held from 25th–27th February 2026, cultural performances showcasing student talent, presidential remarks by Mrs. M. S. Bharathy, and vote of thanks.
The event marked the observance of National Science Day 2026, inspiring students to recognize the contributions of science and encouraging active participation in scientific and cultural initiatives.
Science Day Competations
Science Association & Nature Club Inauguration
Date: 12th November 2025
The Science Association and Nature Club Inauguration for the academic year 2025–26 was jointly organized by the IQAC and Department of Sciences on 12th November 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall.
The program was presided over by Dr. M. B. Kaveriappa, Principal of Cauvery College, Gonikoppal. The Chief Guest was Mrs. Jyothi N. K., Principal, Government PU College, Virajpet. The Guests of Honour included Smt. M. S. Bharathy, Vice Principal, and Dr. Nayana Thimmaiah, IQAC Coordinator.
The inaugural ceremony featured invocation, watering of the plant, welcome address, briefing about the Science Association, introduction and address by the Chief Guest, Launch of association logo, prize distribution, presentation of mementos, presidential remarks, and vote of thanks.
The event marked the formal commencement of the Association’s activities for the year, inspiring students to actively engage in scientific and environmental initiatives.
Quiz, Pick and Speak, Drawing, Essay writing competition
Date: 11th November 2025
Quiz, Pick and Speak, Drawing (Topic: Our planet, our responsibility), and Essay writing (Topic: Effect of plastic pollution on environment) competition was held for the students of B.Sc. on 11th November 2025.
Box Cricket Matches – B.Sc. Students
Date: 10th November 2025
Box cricket matches were organized for the B.Sc. students on 10th November 2025. The event provided an engaging platform for healthy interaction between senior and junior students, fostering team spirit, camaraderie, and mutual understanding. The matches were conducted in a lively and inclusive atmosphere, contributing to the overall vibrancy of campus life.
Fresher’s Day Celebration
Date: 21st August 2025
The Fresher’s Day program for the I B.Sc. students was held on 21st August 2025. The formal function took place during the morning session, presided over by the Vice Principal, Asst. Prof. Mrs. Bharathi M. S. The event marked a warm welcome to the new batch and highlighted the college’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and student engagement.
In the afternoon session, a series of interactive games and activities were organized by senior students, promoting camaraderie and helping the freshers ease into the campus environment. The day concluded on a cheerful note, setting a positive tone for the academic journey ahead.
Student Orientation Program – I B.Sc. Batch (2025–26)
Date: 21st July 2025
The orientation program for the newly admitted I B.Sc. students was successfully conducted on 21st July 2025. The session aimed to familiarize students with the structure and expectations of the B.Sc. curriculum, encompassing the disciplines of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.
Following the introductory briefing, students were guided through the respective departmental laboratories, where faculty members provided insights into the facilities, equipment, and academic activities. Additionally, students were taken to the college library and information center, where they were encouraged to make optimal use of the available resources and adhere to proper library etiquette.
The program served as a foundational step in welcoming students into the academic environment and instilling a sense of responsibility and curiosity towards their chosen fields of study.
